Beginner : Kick-steppin' to the Beat

It's time to learn some Charleston! If you've seen people kicking their way across the dance floor, you're probably familiar with some of these energetic moves! Aside from learning Charleston moves, you'll also focus on good footwork, so that you know how to stay balanced while moving confidently across the floor. Then learn some fancy steps that will help you express your own personal shine when you're dancing with others! No partner and no experience necessary.

Intermediate: 6 and 8 Count Flow

We want to start making your dancing feel effortless. We’ll focus on learning some trickier 6 and 8 count moves that build on stuff you know, and help you figure out how to make them feel different from each other, how to make them feel good, where they fit, and how to ease into and out of them like it’s no big deal.

Elective: Beginner Balboa: Lollies & Twists

It's Balboa Season at the Breakaway! Balboa is a swing dance that originated in Southern California in the 1920s and enjoyed huge popularity during the 1930s and 1940s.  Because it emphasizes rhythmic weight shifts, subtle movements, and closed-position partnering, Balboa is ideal for very fast tempos (around 180 to 300 beats per minute). Each month (April, May, and June) will focus on a different major group of steps. Take all 3 to have a well-rounded foundation for your Balboa journey!

We will examine connection's relationship with body positioning, timing, and how it moves one-self.

Practice sESSION

Intermediate/Advanced Practice Session is held on the last Thursday of each month at 7-8pm, right before the dance.

These structured practices are meant for dancers who are feeling beyond Level 2 content, have danced regularly for at least a year, and are more interested in improving fundamentals than learning new moves. Coming with a dance partner is not required but is allowed and encouraged. Expect to workshop moves and ideas with other dancers, give and receive constructive feedback, and build connections in the Lindy Hop community!
