Beginner : Moving Together

The focus of this class is something fundamental to social dancing: Connection! After all, coordinating movement with another person is part of what makes this a partner dance as opposed to a solo dance. Starting with some basics and building up in complexity each week, you'll learn different moves to get you and your partner on the same page and jammin' together on the dance floor! No partner and no experience necessary.

Intermediate: Spins and Turns

There are a ton of different ways to spin and turn in lindy hop, from Tuck Turns to Pop Turns to Barrel Turns and more. Single turns, double turns, step-step turns, and triple step turns--the possibilities are endless! Join Kevin and Gaurab as they teach you some new turns and turn variations, as well as refining your technique, connection, posture, and balance to help improve your turns overall.

Elective: Beginner Balboa: Pure Bal

It's Balboa Season at the Breakaway! Balboa is a swing dance that originated in Southern California in the 1920s and enjoyed huge popularity during the 1930s and 1940s.  Because it emphasizes rhythmic weight shifts, subtle movements, and closed-position partnering, Balboa is ideal for very fast tempos (around 180 to 300 beats per minute). Each month (April, May, and June) will focus on a different major group of steps. Take all 3 to have a well-rounded foundation for your Balboa journey!

Practice sESSION

Intermediate/Advanced Practice Session is held on the last Thursday of each month at 7-8pm, right before the dance.

These structured practices are meant for dancers who are feeling beyond Level 2 content, have danced regularly for at least a year, and are more interested in improving fundamentals than learning new moves. Coming with a dance partner is not required but is allowed and encouraged. Expect to workshop moves and ideas with other dancers, give and receive constructive feedback, and build connections in the Lindy Hop community!
