Beginner : Moving Together

The focus of this class is something fundamental to social dancing: Connection! After all, coordinating movement with another person is what makes Lindy Hop a partner dance. Starting with some basics and building up in complexity each week, you'll learn different moves to get you and your partner on the same page and jammin' together on the dance floor! No partner and no experience necessary.

Intermediate: Musicality

If you want to dance to the music, you gotta understand it! Really great dancers seem like they already know exactly what's going to happen in the song... even to live music! Come learn about swing music and its common structures, patterns, phrasing, and then how to accent cool moments in the song with your dancing!

Intermediate Elective: Collegiate Shag

Collegiate Shag is a swing dance that also evolved in the 1920s and 30s and is perfect for those faster tempo songs on the dance floor. You can easily recognize this high energy dance from its steady bounce, kicks, and its signature hand held high in the air. This class will start from the very basics of shag, so come learn this fun dance!

Requires prior approval for advanced topics see here.

What makes partnered Lindy Hop look “good?” What makes partnered Lindy Hop feel “good?” How do look and feel relate to each other? How many ways can we get the same move to look and feel good?

In this class, we’ll take some fundamentals and explore lots of different ways to do them, from the shape they take to the connection they require. We’ll focus on leaving behind our own “one way” of moving to give ourselves more options. Hopefully we can take you from “this is how I do a swingout/tuck turn/etc” to “there are many ways I can do a swingout/tuck turn/etc depending on my partner/the tempo/the desired effect.”

Practice sESSION

Intermediate/Advanced Practice Session is held on the last Thursday of each month at 7-8pm, right before the dance.

These practices are meant for dancers who are very comfortable with Intermediate content, have danced and taken classes regularly for at least a year, and are willing to be more collaborative and self-directed than a typical class setting. Ideas will be given for inspiration, but you are encouraged to bring your own ideas to work on. Coming with a dance partner is not required but is allowed and recommended. Expect to workshop moves and ideas with other dancers, give and receive constructive feedback, and build connections in the Lindy Hop community!
