GGLX 2026 Competition Guide

Spirit of the competition:

This event is meant to be a fun, community-centered competition, where we lift each other up by throwing down! Finalists will be selected from each participating scene in the preliminary round, and compete against the finalists from the other scenes in the final round at GGLX. This will be a great opportunity to showcase the crazy ideas you’ve been workshopping!

Competition guidelines are below, but are subject to change.

Eligibility:

This is an all-levels competition. This year it is only open to to those who meet these criteria:

  • Have not taught at a national or international workshop weekend above the newcomer/beginner level

  • Have not placed in an open or invitational level national or international mix and match competition

Format

Preliminary rounds

  • Preliminary rounds will be held at a designated site for each participating scene. Some geographical areas have more than one scene. If this is the case, the scene with the most individuals signing up will be offered the opportunity to host preliminary contests. If they decline, the offer will be extended to the scene with the next highest representation.

  • You can choose to compete as a part of any scene but you may not compete at more than one scene. We expect that you would compete at your home scene if there is one nearby.

  • The prelim competition format will be decided by each site. The default will be a mix and match.

  • The host sites will be announced and contacted on August 10th.

  • Winners of each preliminary contest must be decided by October 8th.

  • The contest winners will be selected by judges chosen in coordination with each scene using whatever criteria inspires them.

  • Judges will select a leader and follower as finalists and alternates for each role.

Final round

  • The final round will be a jam-style strictly to music from the live band on October 10th. Winners from each preliminary round will be partnered with the opposite role from their scene.

  • Finalists and alternates from each scene will receive a free event pass. 2nd alternates will receive 1/2 off their event pass.

  • The final round will be decided by a combination of peer and audience judging.
